Supermelange is a yarn construction technique where multiple fibres in different tones are blended together before spinning — producing a single yarn that carries all its component colours simultaneously. When knitted, this creates a heathered, tone-on-tone visual texture: each sock reads as one colour from a distance and reveals its component tones up close and in changing light.

All three pairs in this pack are two-tone blends — each colour blended with Off White. This is the simpler end of the supermelange spectrum compared to the five-tone blends in the Gold / Pink / Bordeaux pack, but the result is its own quality: cleaner, more focused heathered tones with a consistency that reads as quietly sophisticated rather than visually complex. The off-white thread runs through each pair as the common element, giving the pack a visual coherence when all three are seen together.

The Relax Heavy Rib (DS3800) is a fundamentally different sock from the rest of the Democratique range.

6–9 gauge chunky knit. Where the Fine Rib and Athletique Classique are both knitted at 200 needles (producing a fine, dense fabric), the Relax is knitted at 6–9 gauge — a much coarser construction that produces large, visible rib columns, significant fabric weight, and a genuinely chunky hand feel. On neutral colourways like these three, the rib structure becomes especially visible — with no strong colour to draw the eye, the texture becomes the design element.

93% organic combed cotton. The highest organic cotton content in the Democratique range — more cotton, less polyamide and elastane than either the Fine Rib (75%) or the Athletique Classique (82%). Despite the chunky gauge, the high cotton content breathes naturally, making all three pairs genuinely wearable across all seasons.

How does this pack differ from the Gold / Pink / Bordeaux 3-pack?

Completely different colour register and styling application. The Gold / Pink / Bordeaux 3-pack contains the three five-tone supermelange blends — complex, colourful, warm and earthy, the characterful and expressive half of the Relax range. This Navy / Grey / Black pack contains the three two-tone supermelange blends — minimal, neutral, broadly applicable, the foundation half of the range. Both are DS3800, same construction, same quality; the choice is between the character sock and the foundation sock.

Is this a good gift — aren't neutral socks a safe but boring choice?

The opposite case applies here. Neutral socks in a cheap construction are a boring gift.
