Three things: construction, material, and lifespan. Knitted on 200-needle machines from certified organic combed cotton, with a hand-linked toe seam. Built to last 3-5 years of daily wear — compared to 6-12 months for mass-market socks.

What is a hand-linked toe seam?

A hand-linked toe is closed by hand using a single thread, creating a virtually flat seam with no ridge. Mass-market socks leave a small ridge you can feel through dress shoes. The hand-linked finish is used by every premium sock brand of consequence.

Are Democratique socks certified organic?

Yes. The cotton is certified organic. The finished sock carries OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification, testing every component — fibre, dye, elastic, thread — for harmful substances.

How long do Democratique socks last?

3-5 years of regular wear with proper care. Wash inside out at 30 degrees C, air dry. Do not tumble dry.

Where are Democratique socks designed and made?

Designed in Copenhagen, Denmark. Crafted in Istanbul, Turkey, at one of the world's finest sock factories — the same production partner since 2012.

Since we started in 2011 we have aimed for a green path at Democratique Socks and in 2020 we transformed the full production to 100% organic cotton — still certified OEKO-TEX Standard 100 as we have been for years. We’re always looking into new steps in the supply chain towards sustainability at Democratique Socks — new ways of shipping, packaging and more.

Following World Environment Day June 5th 2021 we took our next step towards an even greener path. We teamed up with tree-nation to plant a tree for every order placed at www.democratiquesocks.com. We have already planted trees in Nepal, Tanzania and Madagascar.
