Sock Care Guide – How to Make Your Socks Last Longer

To keep your socks comfortable, durable, and looking new for as long as possible, follow these simple care tips.

1. Wash Socks Inside Out

Always turn socks inside out before washing. This helps remove sweat, bacteria, and skin particles while protecting the outer fabric and colors.

2. Wash at Low Temperature

Wash socks at 30–40°C (86–104°F). Lower temperatures protect cotton fibers and elastic threads, helping socks keep their shape and durability.

3. Wash Before First Wear

New socks should be washed before the first use. This removes production residues and allows the fibers to soften and settle naturally.

4. Avoid Tumble Drying

Whenever possible, air dry your socks. High heat from tumble dryers can weaken elastic fibers and shorten the lifespan of your socks.

5. Wash with Similar Colors

To maintain vibrant colors:

  • wash dark socks with dark clothing

  • wash white socks separately

  • wash bright colors with similar shades

6. Do Not Overload the Washing Machine

Avoid overloading your washing machine. Giving socks enough space reduces friction and prevents unnecessary fabric wear.

7. Store Socks Properly

Fold socks together instead of stretching them into tight balls. This helps preserve the elasticity and shape of the sock.

Originals Fine Rib Socks — Watermelon

Not red. Not pink. Watermelon is the warm coral tone that sits precisely between them — vivid enough to turn heads at the ankle, warm enough to feel summery rather than aggressive. The colour of the fruit's flesh: ripe, joyful, and immediately recognisable. It is the boldest warm accent in the Originals Fine Rib range and the natural choice for anyone who wants an outfit to feel like summer. Same 200-needle organic combed cotton construction and hand-linked toe, OEKO-TEX certified, knitted in Istanbul. Designed in Copenhagen.

Colour & Styling

Watermelon occupies a specific and valuable tonal position: it is warmer and more coral than a true red, lighter and more saturated than a blush pink. It belongs to the same summer palette as the fruit it is named after — vivid, warm, and energetic. In menswear terms, it is a statement colour that reads as playful and confident rather than formal or serious, which is exactly what gives it its appeal.

The key to wearing Watermelon well is the same as with any bold accent sock: keep the outfit simple and let the colour do the work. White, off-white, and cream provide the cleanest backdrop. Light denim is the natural pairing. Against darker neutrals — navy, charcoal — the warm coral creates a high-contrast summer accent. Compared to bordeaux, which is a cool-toned, formal wine-red, Watermelon is entirely warm, casual, and season-specific.

Best footwear:

  • White canvas and leather sneakers — the definitive Watermelon pairing, see sneaker sock guide →
  • Off-white or cream canvas shoes — tonal warmth
  • Tan suede loafers and boat shoes — the coral reads as a warm accent
  • White leather loafers — summer, clean, direct
  • Light brown leather sandals or casual shoes

Best trousers: White or off-white chinos · Light wash denim · Cream or ecru linen · Sand or beige cotton · Pale grey

FAQ

What shade is Watermelon — is it red or pink?

Watermelon sits precisely between red and pink: a warm, coral-toned red with enough warmth to feel summery and enough saturation to be clearly visible. It is neither a true red nor a blush pink — it is the colour of the inside of a ripe watermelon: vivid, warm, and immediately joyful. In practice it reads as a bold warm accent that belongs to the summer palette, distinct from the cooler, more formal register of bordeaux or a classic red.

What is the difference between Watermelon and Bordeaux?

Bordeaux is a deep, cool-toned wine-red — dark, formal, and strongest in autumn and winter with navy and charcoal suits. Watermelon is warm, coral, and saturated — light, casual, and strongest in spring and summer with white sneakers, linen, and light denim. Bordeaux rewards a second look in a formal context; Watermelon demands a first one in a casual one. They serve entirely different wardrobes and seasons.

What shoes work best with watermelon socks?

White sneakers are the strongest pairing — the clean white ground lets the warm coral read as vivid and intentional. White leather loafers and tan suede shoes also work well: the warmth of the leather complements the warmth of the coral without competing. Against darker shoes the contrast is strong and can work in casual streetwear contexts, but the colour's natural home is with lighter, summer-appropriate footwear.

Are watermelon-coloured socks appropriate for smart casual outfits?

Yes, in relaxed smart casual and casual settings — particularly in warmer months. The key is keeping the rest of the outfit simple: white or cream chinos, minimal footwear, plain upper half. Watermelon is a seasonal statement colour rather than a year-round neutral, and it works best when the outfit frames it rather than competes with it. For business casual or formal contexts, navy or black is more appropriate.

Are these socks organic and certified?

Yes. Made from 75% organic combed cotton, 23% polyamide, and 2% elastane. The cotton is certified organic, grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilisers. The finished sock — including the watermelon dye — carries OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification, confirming every component has been independently tested and verified free of harmful substances.

Can I buy these as part of a multipack?

Yes — purchasing 10 or more products unlocks a 15% discount. Watermelon pairs naturally in a summer rotation with Palm Springs Blue, light grey melange, and grass green. See all curated multipacks →
