Sock Care Guide – How to Make Your Socks Last Longer

To keep your socks comfortable, durable, and looking new for as long as possible, follow these simple care tips.

1. Wash Socks Inside Out

Always turn socks inside out before washing. This helps remove sweat, bacteria, and skin particles while protecting the outer fabric and colors.

2. Wash at Low Temperature

Wash socks at 30–40°C (86–104°F). Lower temperatures protect cotton fibers and elastic threads, helping socks keep their shape and durability.

3. Wash Before First Wear

New socks should be washed before the first use. This removes production residues and allows the fibers to soften and settle naturally.

4. Avoid Tumble Drying

Whenever possible, air dry your socks. High heat from tumble dryers can weaken elastic fibers and shorten the lifespan of your socks.

5. Wash with Similar Colors

To maintain vibrant colors:

  • wash dark socks with dark clothing

  • wash white socks separately

  • wash bright colors with similar shades

6. Do Not Overload the Washing Machine

Avoid overloading your washing machine. Giving socks enough space reduces friction and prevents unnecessary fabric wear.

7. Store Socks Properly

Fold socks together instead of stretching them into tight balls. This helps preserve the elasticity and shape of the sock.

Athletique Classique Clean Stripes — Clear White / Navy

Navy on white is the classic crew sock stripe — the one that has been on tennis players, loafer wearers, and anyone with a considered casual wardrobe for the better part of sixty years. It is the most versatile of the six Clean Stripes colourways: cool enough to read as formal-adjacent, clean enough to go with everything, and rooted in a heritage that requires no explanation. The foundation stripe. 90 DKK, 82% organic combed cotton, 200-needle heavy-rib knit, OEKO-TEX certified. Designed in Copenhagen.

Colour & Styling

Navy on white is the stripe that started the Athletique Classique aesthetic — the reference to classic European tennis socks, to Wimbledon prep, to the particular kind of considered sport style that belongs equally in a locker room and at a Sunday lunch. It is cooler and more contained than Henri Blue, darker and more formal than any of the coloured stripe options, and cleaner in its graphic weight than black on white. The most versatile stripe in the range by the widest margin.

The styling logic is the same as all Clean Stripes — one statement, everything else quiet — but with navy, the outfit can extend into smarter territory than with the coloured stripes. Navy on white is the only Clean Stripes colourway that reads as genuinely appropriate with a blazer, with smart chinos, with the dressed-down end of smart casual dressing. It is still an Athletique Classique crew sock and belongs with visible sock dressing rather than inside dress shoes — but it covers more wardrobe ground than any other stripe here.

Best footwear:

  • White leather sneakers — the white ground connects; the navy stripe reads as considered and clean above — see sneaker guide →
  • Penny loafers and horsebit loafers — navy on white is the classic loafer sock; tan leather and dark leather both work — see loafer guide →
  • Chunky sneakers (New Balance 990, ASICS, Salomon) — the heavier construction suits more shoe volume
  • Classic court shoes (Adidas Stan Smith, Onitsuka Tiger) — the natural sport-heritage pairing
  • Tan suede Chelsea and chukka boots in casual contexts — see boots guide →

Best trousers: Dark indigo denim — the definitive base · White and off-white chinos · Navy trousers (tonal, monochromatic — a deliberate choice) · Beige and camel chinos · Cropped tailored trousers · Shorts in summer · Grey wool in smart casual contexts

How Navy differs from Henri Blue in the Clean Stripes range:
Henri Blue is lighter, warmer, and more vivid — the sport-heritage blue that reads as energetic and considered. Navy is darker, cooler, and more contained — the classic stripe that reads as traditional and broadly applicable. Henri Blue is in the vivid 3-pack; Navy is in the restrained 3-pack. Both are blue on white; they are not interchangeable.

About the Colour Name — "New Blue"

The product SKU name is "New Blue" — an internal Democratique colour reference for a clean, classic navy. In editorial copy and across the pack descriptions, this colourway is simply called Navy, which is the most accurate description of the tone: a traditional dark blue, cool in character, the foundational blue of the Clean Stripes range. "New Blue" is the SKU; navy is the colour.

It is distinct from Henri Blue (lighter, warmer, sport-heritage mid-blue) and from the Fine Rib solid Navy (thinner dress sock, different construction and occasion entirely).

FAQ

What is "New Blue" — is this a navy sock?

Yes — "New Blue" is the internal SKU name for what is editorially called Navy across the pack descriptions and product range. It is a clean, classic dark blue — the traditional navy that has been the foundation stripe in sport-heritage sock design for decades. The "New" prefix is an internal reference; the colour itself is straightforwardly navy.

What is the difference between Navy (New Blue) and Henri Blue in the Clean Stripes range?

Navy is darker, cooler, and more contained — the classic, traditional blue that reads as preppy and broadly applicable. Henri Blue is lighter, warmer, and more vivid — the sport-heritage blue named after Henri Leconte, brighter than navy and with more energy. Navy is in the restrained 3-pack with Black and Forest Green. Henri Blue is in the vivid 3-pack with Grass Green and Red Moon. Both are blue on white; the choice is between the classic and the contemporary.

What is the Athletique Classique — how is it different from the Originals Fine Rib?

Two completely different socks. The Originals Fine Rib (DS1006) is a thin 200-needle dress sock — 75% organic combed cotton, smooth and precise, for dress shoes and formal contexts. The Athletique Classique (DS1528) is a heavier, chunkier crew sock — 82% organic combed cotton in a heavy-rib construction, built to be worn visibly above the shoe. For the dressed end, see the Fine Rib Navy →

What does "Clean Stripes" mean?

Clean Stripes is the specific Athletique Classique stripe pattern: a Clear White ground with a defined band of coloured stripes at the cuff, using varied stripe widths within the band. Two colours only — white ground, one coloured stripe — kept simple and pairable across any outfit.

Can women wear these socks?

Yes — the Athletique Classique is unisex. EU 41–46 fits most men and larger women's sizes. Navy on white is the most universally wearable colourway in the range across genders. Also available in EU 36–40 — see the full Athletique Classique collection →

Do you ship internationally?

Yes — worldwide, with free shipping above 75€ / 75£ / 100 USD / 400 DKK. 99.2% of orders ship the same day. Full shipping information →
