Sock Care Guide – How to Make Your Socks Last Longer

To keep your socks comfortable, durable, and looking new for as long as possible, follow these simple care tips.

1. Wash Socks Inside Out

Always turn socks inside out before washing. This helps remove sweat, bacteria, and skin particles while protecting the outer fabric and colors.

2. Wash at Low Temperature

Wash socks at 30–40°C (86–104°F). Lower temperatures protect cotton fibers and elastic threads, helping socks keep their shape and durability.

3. Wash Before First Wear

New socks should be washed before the first use. This removes production residues and allows the fibers to soften and settle naturally.

4. Avoid Tumble Drying

Whenever possible, air dry your socks. High heat from tumble dryers can weaken elastic fibers and shorten the lifespan of your socks.

5. Wash with Similar Colors

To maintain vibrant colors:

  • wash dark socks with dark clothing

  • wash white socks separately

  • wash bright colors with similar shades

6. Do Not Overload the Washing Machine

Avoid overloading your washing machine. Giving socks enough space reduces friction and prevents unnecessary fabric wear.

7. Store Socks Properly

Fold socks together instead of stretching them into tight balls. This helps preserve the elasticity and shape of the sock.

Originals Fine Rib Socks — Red Moon

A lunar eclipse turns the moon a deep, rusty red — warm, dramatic, and unlike anything else in the sky. That is the colour logic of Red Moon: a dark, warm red with terracotta-orange undertones, deeper than a true red, earthier than a classic scarlet. Not the cool wine-red of Bordeaux, not the warm coral of Watermelon — this is the red that belongs to the warm, earthy wardrobe: brown leather, tan suede, denim, and white sneakers. Photographed with New Balance and Air Force 1s for a reason. Same 200-needle organic combed cotton construction and hand-linked toe, OEKO-TEX certified, knitted in Istanbul. Designed in Copenhagen.

Colour & Styling

Red Moon occupies a specific and unusual tonal position in the range. It is a warm, dark red — the kind of red that reads as grounded and earthy rather than bright or aggressive. The terracotta-orange quality gives it a natural, almost autumnal character that connects it to the same palette as brown leather, brick, rust, and ochre. It is further from the cool formality of Bordeaux and closer to the warm end of the red spectrum — a colour that belongs in streetwear, casual smart, and creative contexts.

The product images tell the full story: this is a sock that works with New Balance 550s, Air Force 1s, and raw denim. It creates a warm accent that ties together the earthy, warm-neutral palette that dominates contemporary casual menswear. Against dark denim it glows. Against cream or ecru trousers it reads as a bold warm statement. Against tan or brown leather it blends into the warm palette in a way that a cooler red never could.

Best footwear:

  • Natural leather and suede desert boots and chukkas — see boots guide →
  • Off-white canvas shoes — tonal warmth

Best trousers: Dark indigo or raw denim · White or off-white chinos · Cream or ecru linen · Camel wool · Charcoal (high contrast, strong statement)

FAQ

What shade of red is Red Moon exactly?

Red Moon is a dark, warm red with terracotta-orange undertones — closer to a rusty brick than a fire-engine red or a true scarlet. The name references the deep, coppery red of a lunar eclipse: rich, warm, and slightly earthy. It is not as cool or dark as wine; not as bright or orange as vermilion. It occupies the tonal range between a rust and a classic red — the kind of red that reads as warm and grounded rather than bold and aggressive.

What is the difference between Red Moon and Bordeaux?

Bordeaux is a deep, cool-toned wine-red — dark, formal, and strongest in autumn and winter with suits and dark trousers. Red Moon is a warm, earthy dark red with orange undertones — casual, grounded, and closest to the rust-brick palette that works with denim, white sneakers, and brown leather. Bordeaux disappears into formal contexts; Red Moon energises casual ones. Both are warm-weather-to-autumn colours, but they serve entirely different wardrobes and moods.

What is the difference between Red Moon and Watermelon?

Watermelon is a light, vivid coral — a pink-red that is clearly summer, casual, and high-energy. Red Moon is a dark, muted warm red — deeper, earthier, and more versatile across seasons. Watermelon belongs to the spring/summer wardrobe with white chinos and linen; Red Moon belongs across seasons, particularly in autumn, with denim and leather. Watermelon is bright; Red Moon is rich.

What outfits work best with Red Moon socks?

The strongest pairings are with dark denim and white sneakers — the warm rust-red sock creates a perfect warm accent that ties together the casual palette. White or off-white chinos with tan leather loafers work equally well. Camel wool trousers in autumn create a tonal earth-tone pairing. The key is keeping the outfit in the warm-neutral register — creams, tans, browns, and denim — rather than cool tones like grey or navy, which reduce the warmth of the colour.

Are these socks organic and certified?

Yes. Made from 75% organic combed cotton, 23% polyamide, and 2% elastane. The cotton is certified organic, grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilisers. The finished sock carries OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification, confirming every component — including the red moon dye — has been independently tested and verified free of harmful substances.

Can I buy these as part of a multipack?

Yes — purchasing 10 or more products unlocks a 15% discount. Red Moon pairs naturally with army green, hot chocolate, and black for a complete warm-toned rotation with earthy depth. See all curated multipacks →
