Sock Care Guide – How to Make Your Socks Last Longer

To keep your socks comfortable, durable, and looking new for as long as possible, follow these simple care tips.

1. Wash Socks Inside Out

Always turn socks inside out before washing. This helps remove sweat, bacteria, and skin particles while protecting the outer fabric and colors.

2. Wash at Low Temperature

Wash socks at 30–40°C (86–104°F). Lower temperatures protect cotton fibers and elastic threads, helping socks keep their shape and durability.

3. Wash Before First Wear

New socks should be washed before the first use. This removes production residues and allows the fibers to soften and settle naturally.

4. Avoid Tumble Drying

Whenever possible, air dry your socks. High heat from tumble dryers can weaken elastic fibers and shorten the lifespan of your socks.

5. Wash with Similar Colors

To maintain vibrant colors:

  • wash dark socks with dark clothing

  • wash white socks separately

  • wash bright colors with similar shades

6. Do Not Overload the Washing Machine

Avoid overloading your washing machine. Giving socks enough space reduces friction and prevents unnecessary fabric wear.

7. Store Socks Properly

Fold socks together instead of stretching them into tight balls. This helps preserve the elasticity and shape of the sock.

Athletique Classique Clean Stripes — Clear White / Henri Blue

Henri Blue is not navy. It is a mid, slightly warm blue — brighter and more vivid than navy, warmer than a pure sky blue — the blue of vintage tennis kit, of classic court shoes, of the locker room. Named in reference to Henri Leconte, the French tennis player whose flamboyant 1980s court style is the aesthetic foundation of the entire Athletique Classique collection. On a Clear White ground, the Henri Blue stripe reads as sport-heritage: considered, athletic, and precisely the kind of blue that does not need to be explained. 90 DKK, 82% organic combed cotton, 200-needle heavy-rib knit, OEKO-TEX certified. Designed in Copenhagen.

Colour & Styling

Henri Blue sits between navy and sky blue in tone — warm enough to read as a friendly, accessible blue rather than a formal cool one, vivid enough to be clearly present against the white ground. It has the quality of a colour that has been worn with intention for decades: the blue of Björn Borg's Fila kit, of classic Adidas court shoes, of the French Open in the 1980s. On a white crew sock, the stripe reads exactly as it should — sport-heritage, considered, and slightly better than the obvious choice.

The styling framework is the same as for all Clean Stripes colourways: one statement, everything else quiet. White leather sneakers connect the white sock ground to the shoe; the Henri Blue stripe sits above as the colour detail. Dark denim, a plain white or grey upper, a clean shoe. The locker room lifestyle image captures the register precisely — Henri Blue belongs in the kind of environment where people care about what they wear when they are not trying to look like they care.

Best footwear:

  • White leather sneakers — the clean white ground connects to the shoe; the Henri Blue stripe reads above it — see sneaker guide →
  • Classic court shoes (Adidas, Onitsuka Tiger, New Balance 574) — the sport-heritage aesthetic is the natural home
  • Chunky sneakers — the heavy-rib construction suits more shoe volume
  • Tan leather and suede penny loafers — Henri Blue creates a clean cool-warm contrast with warm leather — see loafer guide →

Best trousers: Dark indigo denim · White and off-white chinos · Navy shorts (Henri Blue and navy read as tonal, not matching — a deliberate monochromatic choice) · Cropped cotton trousers · Shorts in summer

How Henri Blue differs from Navy in the Clean Stripes range:
Navy (in the Navy / Black / Forest Green 3-pack) is a darker, cooler blue — the formal classic. Henri Blue is lighter, warmer, and more vivid — the sport-heritage blue. Navy is the convention; Henri Blue is the reference.

The Name: Who Is Henri?

Henri Blue is named in reference to Henri Leconte — the French tennis player who reached world number 5 in the late 1980s and won the Davis Cup for France in 1991. Leconte was as known for his style and personality as for his tennis: flamboyant, expressive, and possessed of a visual flair that made him one of the most watchable players of his era.

The Athletique Classique collection draws on the aesthetic heritage of 1980s European tennis — the era of coloured crew socks, classic court shoes, and the particular kind of considered sport style that has proved more enduring than almost anything else in menswear. Henri Blue is that era's blue: not the official uniform navy, but the brighter, warmer blue of the off-court moment.

FAQ

What is Henri Blue exactly — how does it differ from navy?

Henri Blue is a mid, slightly warm blue — brighter and more vivid than navy, warmer than a pure sky blue. Where navy is a dark, cool, formal blue (the foundation colour for suits and dress socks), Henri Blue is a lighter, sportier, more energetic blue with a warm quality. On a white ground, navy reads as classic and restrained; Henri Blue reads as sport-heritage and slightly more present. The choice between them is a choice between convention and reference.

What is the Athletique Classique — how is it different from the Originals Fine Rib?

Two completely different socks for different wardrobe occasions. The Originals Fine Rib (DS1006) is a thin 200-needle dress sock — 75% organic combed cotton, smooth, for dress shoes and formal contexts. The Athletique Classique (DS1528) is a heavier, chunkier crew sock — 82% organic combed cotton in a heavy-rib construction, built to be worn visibly above the shoe. For dress shoes, choose the Fine Rib. For sneakers and visible crew socks, choose the Athletique Classique.

What does "Clean Stripes" mean?

Clean Stripes is the specific stripe pattern in this Athletique Classique line: a Clear White ground with a defined band of coloured stripes at the cuff, using varied stripe widths within the band. Two colours only — white ground, one coloured stripe — kept simple and easy to pair across any outfit.

Can women wear these socks?

Yes — the Athletique Classique is unisex. EU 41–46 fits most men and larger women's sizes. Henri Blue on white is one of the most popular crossover colourways. This colour is also available in EU 36–40 — see the full Athletique Classique collection →

Do you ship internationally?

Yes — worldwide, with free shipping above 75€ / 75£ / 100 USD / 400 DKK. 99.2% of orders ship the same day. Full shipping information →
